Toddler Group (age 18 months - 2 1/2 years)
In our Centre we have found that it takes a really special kind of teacher to work with toddlers. This person needs to be extremely patient, kind, nurturing, and above all else have the willingness and curiosity to learn along side them as they discover, test boundaries, and take safe risks. We base our toddler program around the concept that play and exploration are the best teachers; we allow this group to have the space and freedom to explore, while making them feel safe and welcome.
Infant Group (age 6 weeks - 18 months)
In July of 2015 we were granted our first ever Infant License. This is something we had talked and thought about for a very long time and to finally see it become a reality has been a great experience. As with anything new it has been a bit of a learning process for us but it is something that we are truly very excited about. Our approach with this age group is based around the Theory of Attachment, meaning that we believe that above anything else it is so important for the teacher of this age group to create and maintain close-knit attachments and bonds with each individual child. This will allow the child to feel safe and know that their needs will be provided for by their caregiver, which in turn allows them to build the confidence needed to explore the world around them.
Preschool Group (age 2 1/2 - 5 years)
Our preschool age group is the largest group in our Centre. Just as we know it takes many special qualities to work with our toddler group, we are aware that those same qualities are necessary for the preschool group as well. The children in this age group are typically full of questions and the desire to learn as much as they can about the world around them. Here at the Swift Current Child Care Centre we encourage our staff to create developmentally & age appropriate programs that are built around the children's interests. We understand that all children learn at different paces and in different ways and we support each child's unique learning style to the best of our abilities.
Kindergarten & School Age (age 6 - 12 years)
Our kindergarten & school age children are fiercely independant and love to be able to do anything and everything on their own. We encourage these children to make good choices and decisions on their own while providing them with the guidance that they need. Our program for these age groups is for the most part dictated by the children. They are at the age that they can tell us what they are interested in, what they would like to talk about and sometimes even lead their own learning experiences. In our centre we believe that by showing the kindergarten & school age children that we respect and value their opinions it allows them to feel comfortable and welcome while in our care.
